Zuno launches Fuel Guard add-on for E20-related vehicle damage

Zuno General Insurance has introduced Fuel Guard for eligible vehicles made on or after 1 April 2023, covering certain engine and fuel-system damage linked to manufacturer-approved blended fuels such as E20. The add-on permits one admissible claim a year and excludes wear, poor maintenance, incorrect fuel and warranty-covered repairs.

What to watch

  • Competing insurers introducing E20, alternative-fuel or engine-protection endorsements.
  • OEMs explicitly recommending, co-marketing or distancing themselves from E20-related insurance products.
  • E20 rollout acceleration at fuel stations and changes in fuel-labeling or consumer-disclosure requirements.
  • Early claims data showing concentration by vehicle model, region, fuel retailer or maintenance history.
  • Consumer complaints or regulator scrutiny around exclusions, misfuelling definitions and manufacturer-warranty overlap.
  • Dealer finance-and-insurance teams adding fuel-compatibility protection to new-vehicle accessory or insurance packages.
  • Target eligible post-April 2023 vehicle owners through dealer, OEM-service, renewal and digital-policy journeys.
  • Create simple E20 eligibility and claims-exclusion explainers to prevent confusion between approved fuel use, misfuelling and maintenance-related damage.
  • Track attachment rate, claim frequency, claim rejection reasons and cancellation/renewal behavior by vehicle model and geography.
  • Pursue OEM, dealership and service-network partnerships that can validate fuel compatibility and maintenance records at point of sale.
  • Test bundling Fuel Guard with roadside assistance, engine protect and zero-depreciation covers rather than selling it as a standalone add-on.
