Why it matters to operators and investors
The wind-down of a five-year foreign-brand franchise after one cycle shows that licensing a global convenience banner does not solve India's kirana-density problem, so future deals should favour partnering with or enabling existing neighbourhood stores, or include staged commitments and clear exit triggers.
